Fighting with Asthma and Allergies

For those people who suffer from asthma and allergies, a ‘Sensitive Choice Program’ introduced by NACA (National Asthma Council Australia) and the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation of New Zealand, works to help identify household products (including carpet and other floor-covering materials) may greatly help them out with the situations.

National Asthma Council Australia is a not-for-profit organisation aiming to improve quality of life for people with asthma.

The good news is a number of timber floor shops through Australia have the right to display the program’s symbol on its range of products – you might notice the symbol is a butterfly when you visit these floor coverings shops.

The big program was established in 2006, developed in response to a growing consumer demand from local people for guidance in identifying products that may aid in reducing asthma and allergy triggers in their home and commercial places.

“For example, some carpet products with this butterfly symbol trap allergens until they can be removed,” one of a flooring shop owner introduces, “believe it or not, the smooth straight fibres release over twice as many allergens when vacuumed compared to normal carpets.”

He continues, “The products also very hygienic. The built-in antimicrobial treatment offers consistent protection against daily bacteria. So you can just relax and enjoy these products.”
